Is It possible to migrate automatically a vm to anoter server when the server is turned off?

Is there a way on how to migrate a VM automatically to another server when the server is turned off?

vSphere basically offers two methods:

  • HA: In case of a host failure, VMs will be restarted on another host in the cluster
  • DRS: This feature will live migrated VMs to other hosts, if a host is placed into Maintenance Mode before it is shut down.

Please remember that both option require shared storage, on which the VM is stored.

  • vSphere HA - vSphere Essentials Plus or Above
  • vSphere DRS - vSphere Enterprise Plus is needed

So, need to have specific license for each features.
