We have networker 7.6.0 build 194 installed on 32bit windows 2003 SP2 server. This is the networker server.
Client is 7.5 SP3, This is the virtual client running windows 2008 R2 64bit on ESXi 4..1server.
This backup server is attached to Clariion CX4 and we do a backup to disk.
A 2T LUN is presented to the server and can be seen as internal disk by the server
I've used diskpart to set the alignment
DISKPART> create partition primary align=64
DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition.
DISKPART> list partition
Partition ### Type Size Offset

Partition 1 Primary 1183 GB 64 KB
then I assign a drive letter to the disk
Then format the disk to NTFS > default unit allocation
Go to networker create a device for AFTD > lable and mount the device > verify the path to AFTD
Now when I try to backup the save set , the backup starts and then fails at about 367G and then everything is deleted from the AFTD directory and also from media db.
EMC think that is the firewall in ESXi...but I disagree.
Anyone having a problem or know a solution ????
ESXi has NO firewall.
Do you have ESXi or ESX?
Andre
HI Andrew,
thanks for your message. I thought so.....but networker does not work.....it backs up upto 350G and then fails
Are you using SAN mode for the bacup? Or net mode?
Have you tried to disable the firewall of the Windows 2008?
Andre
Hi Andrew,
Yes the backup is backup-to-disk on CLARIION.
The firewall has networker ports open.
I don't think it firewall as if thats the case, networker will not backup smaller savesets......
networker backs up 10G folder.....but fails when I try to backup 2T saveset....
Try disabling vss for the client on the Networker server. Add "vss:*=off" wihtout the quotes to the "save operations" box under the "Apps & Modules" under the client properties. The issue may be caused by vss if the save set is too big.
Thanks for the suggestion.
will try that. the problem is that the backup goes to about 300 odd GB and then stalls and then restarts again.
Client retry was 1....so I guess it retries to backup the client. So I have set the retry to 0.
But if I have vss=off........how does networker backup open files ????
Networker will use it's own open file agent in the Networker user. Anyway
if you miss a couple of files it is better to missing the whole job.
cool...will give it a try.
what I don't understand is why does networker backup about 326G and then stall......
it just freezes and after some time, then restarts the backup....
and the cycle goes on....
EMC can't figure out what is wrong
I get an error when I have vss=off
