VCB Backup Question

HI

I have installed ESX 4.0 (Physical Machine) with VC 4(another Physcial Machine) and installed VCB on VC 4 server. This is the first time i am using VCB. I am using the below command to take image for a particular VM.

vcbMounter.exe -h 10.1.10.10 -u root -p password -a moref:112 -r c:\mnt\vm2 -t fullvm -L 6 -m nbd (i dont have SAN so i m using the network access to copy).

Backups succussfully starts for a VM which is around 25 GB and finishes successfully. But when i see the backup files, the vmdk file is broken in to many pieces. around 10 files each with 2 GB or less. for example

scsi0-0-0-Windows 2008-s0.vmdk ......scsi0-0-0-Windows 2008-s011.vmdk

How can i run and restore and make this file in one again as the original VM files. It s also creating may log files.

Is there any better way of backing up VM with VCB. Remember i have not installed any Netbackup agents (we generally use symantec netback 6..5.2.3)

Any suggestion and scripts which make my life easier to take backups. The vm took around 40 mins to copy.

Regards

Try "-M" (Monolithic) for a single file.

Looks like you have multiple snapshots.

It is quite normal that these files are broken into many smaller files. That is not due to having snapshots.

To restore the guest you must use the VMWare Converter and browse to the directory where these files are located. VMware Converter generates a new guest then.

I have tried another machine its and showing the same 8 broken files. which is around 16 GB.

Is the converter part of VCB or do i have to download it separtely ? and can i install on the same machine i mean where my VC & VCB is installed. Any scripts for VCB if you can tell me which make works little easier will be great help. right now i am using the basic command vcbmounter only. Any other commands help or good link which explains to use vcb commands in more proper way.

Thanks in advance

But don't use -M 1 with -F 0, (single file with compaction), because this combination can not be restored with the converter!

-M 0 with -F 0 (split file with compaction) is no problem for the converter.
