VCB delete delta files.

Hi guys,

I tried VCB script in order to backup some of my VM. But I get an issue. VCB is not running any backup anymore because there are still delta files on my VM's directory.

I don't know how to deal with this issue. It seems that I can't delete the *-delta.vmdk files but I've been able to rename the file with .old extension.

I guess this happen because VCB failed once.

Have you got any procedure to clean all the delta files without any risk?

Thanks.

Create one new snapshot and select to delete all. Usually it helps, but it can take some time.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I don't know how to deal with this issue. It seems that I can't delete the *-delta.vmdk files but I've been able to rename the file with .old extension.

Rename the files back and then use the vSphere client to connect to vCenter or the ESX host that this VM is on and delete the snapshots there using snapshot Manager.

Good Luck!

Hello,

thanks !

Well its the first thing I checked when I figure out that delta files are snapshot files. I check the snapshot manager for all of my VM.

But I just see in the manager : hostname and sub "You are here".

It seem like there is no snapshot.

Is there any consequence if I delete the delta files ? (By shutting down the VM for exemple).

Try taking a new snapshot using Snapshot Manager and then immediately delete it. If that doesn't clean everything up, then check out kb 1002310.

Hi !

thanks for the help ! It works.

I did as you say :

- Rename the delta files as original (without .old extension)

- Make a snapshot of the VM

- Delete immediatly the snapshot

- Then delete the "Consolidate Helper- 0" snapshot made by the VCB snapshot appear, I deleted it.

But for one of my VM it didn't work I get in the recent task list the following error :

Remove all snapshots

hostname

Unable to

access file <

unspecified

filename>

since it is

locked

root

any idea ?

See if kb 10051 helps.

Hi, i have the next issue, we use ghettoVCB script, but i think the process dont finished correctly, and already we have a snapshot named "consolidate helper- 0", and esxi 4.0 have virtual disks with -delta in the name.

I would like to know if exist a process to delete the disk-delta.vmdk and dissapear the snapshot.

Thanks for any help.

Ciao
