VDR related crashes

HI,

We have a virtualized server environment running off 3 physical machine and uses a NAS for shared storage. Each machine has 2-3 VMs running on them, including CentOS and Windows Server 2008 R2. We're using VMware essentials plus.

The servers were running fine for a couple months, but recently we've been experiencing crashes. It seems not only the VM crashes, but all the VMs on the physical machine. All the VMs on that machine becomes grayed-out or "unavailable", we're unable to connect to the VMs through remote-desktop yet we can still ping the physical machine. Restarting the machine fixes the problem for a week or so. I would like to stress that no notable changes were made during this time period.

It seems the last couple entries in the logs before this happens always relate "VMware Data Recovery" quiescing the system and failing it's snapshot. The VDR VM is not on the crashing machine.

Is there anything anyone could suggest us to do to try and fix this problem?

Also, is it normal for all VMs on the machine to crash due to something relating to VDR?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

The versions are;

vSphere Client 5.0.0 Build 455964

vCenter Server 5.0.0 Build 455964

VDR 2.0.1.2374 Build 740238

The log entry I'm referring to is

Warning message from 10.52.5.12: Timed out while

quiescing the virtual machine.

warning

7/30/2013 6:46:16 AM

VM-SCADA-A

vpxuser

Then there's a variation of stuff like:

Host is not responding

error

7/22/2013 12:06:35 PM

10.52.5.11

and

vSphere HA detected a possible host failure of this host

error

7/22/2013 12:04:50 PM

10.52.5.11

also

Frequent path state changes are occurring for path

vmhba3:C0:T0:L3. This might indicate a storage problem.

Affected device: naa.60080e50002dc1e2000001a24fbdd954.

Affected datastores: sql-backups

warning

7/22/2013 4:45:46 AM

sql-backups

It repeats until the machine is restarted, then everything fine for another couple days.

I can successfully create a quiesced snapshot myself, yet VDR can't.
