vSphere Replication versus vADP

Hi,

Can someone explain to me the relationship between VMWARE VSTORAGE APIS FOR DATA PROTECTION (vADP) and vSPHERE REPLICATION?  I realize that one is an API and the other is a feature that can be used directly.  What I'm curious about is whether vSphere Replication uses vADP and if not, then how does the core functionality of the two differ.

vSphere Replication does not use VADP, it instead uses a different protocol (LWD) that is optimized to understand the changes in the VM that need to be transported to the secondary VM (over a WAN if need be) to meet the desired RPO. VADP is exposed to customers and partners whereas LWD is VMware-internal only, actually only used by vSphere Replication.

As Rahul already mentioned,  vSphere replication is unique. I think you are asking this question because some backup vendors (who uses vADP) are offering some sort of quasi-replication based on vADP. Those are really backup jobs where the destination happened to be a vSphere datastore. Not efficient for enterprise level SLAs. They do work for small deployments.
