When will the converter support Ubuntu 20/22?

I am trying to convert an Ubuntu 20 OS into a VM. Essentially a straight p2v.

It fails with the error:

FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127, and message: FATAL: kernel too old Error running vmware-updateGrub.sh through chroot into /mnt/p2v-src-root Command:
chroot "/mnt/p2v-src-root" /vmware-updateGrub.sh "GRUB2" "(hd0)" "(hd0,2)" /vmware-device.map "grub2-install" '

I suspect this is related to the OS version being too new, as opposed to being to old.

Any help ?

Thanks.

Hello,

Converter 6.3 is a revival of the product which was discontinued a couple of years back. So it does not contain new functionalities and currently, it does not support Ubuntu 20/22. Please check https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.3/rn/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone-6... for details on supported versions.

Newer versions of OS support will be available in the future.

For your issue, I see there is some hack mentioned here https://communities.vmware.com/t5/Converter-Standalone-Discussions/GRUB-after-vmware-conversion-of-U... .. it may help you.

Hope this helps,

Preeti
