Windows NT4.0 - Drive letter's do not change

I have an NT 4 server with C: E: O: and P:, the conversion runs with no issue or errors. Once I boot up the VM, drives are C: E: F: D:, when I change them it commits the change, after a reboot the drive letters revert back to C: E: F: 😧 and I can't figure it out.

Are you using sysprep? Sysprep will do that. This is why they say to not use sysprep on cirtix machines.

No not using sysprep, at least it's something I didn't run when I ran the conversion.

Can you attach the logs? To do so, simply open up your VMware Converter 3.x application and choose

File --> Export Logs

This will produce a zip file for which you can attach to your response.

The logs have been overwritten, I'd have to do it all over again.

Did anyone find a solution to this problem ?

I did a clone clone using VMware-convertercd-4.0.3-u4 and two of my drives do not retain their drive letters after reboot :smileymischief:

TIA

Try to convert without customization.

As far as I can tell, you can't customize (other than choose to install vmware tools) with the converter cd and NT4.

I did however come across a solution Smiley Happy

Do this (I DO NOT GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!):

1. Export HKLM\System\Disk

2. Delete HKLM\System\Disk

3. Run Disk Administrator (windisk)

- It will tell you that it's the first time you run it...

4. Set the drive letters the way you want them

5. Reboot

It worked for me Smiley Happy
