vcenter converter error

Hi All,

I am trying to run the latest version of vcenter converter (4.0.0 , Build 146302) to convert a physical win 2000 machine.

Step 1 where I specify the source works fine. I can view details and can press next.

Step2 I specify the destination VMWare Infrastructure (ESX Server, 3.0.0 27701 ).

When I press next I get this message:

"A general system error occurred: Incomplete header received" and I cannot proceed.

I tried running the converter from various machines but I always get the same message.

I searched for the error and could not find anyhing. Any sugestions?

Thanks,

Antonio

Hi Antonio,

After getting this error, could you cancel the wizard, export the logs (File->Export Logs) and post them here?

Thanks,

Vasil

Hello Antonio,

From the logs it looks like converter can't connect to the destination ESX server.

Connecting to host 192.168.7.150 on port 443

Failed to send request. Retrying. Error: class Vmacore::Http::MalformedHeaderException(Incomplete header received)

Can you please check whether a firewall is blocking the connection?

Regards,

Plamen

No firewalls, they are in the same subnet. I can reach the ESX server with the infrastructure client with no problems.

I don't know if there are any settings (nor how to change them) on the actual esx server that would actually block communication.

Another issue is that I can only connect to my ESX using Virtual Infrastructure Client 2.0.

If I try for instance 2.5 I get a message about an untrusted certificate, I click ignore and the connection fails "The server closed the connection".

Is there anything that must be set on the ESX server side?

hi ximox,

could it be the firewall service on the esx itself (Infrastructure Client->select server->select tab configuration->software/security profile ) ?

I must say i didn't read the logs yet Smiley Happy

Tried that. Everything is allowed from the ESX security.

oh, ok, but since you have problems using your 2.5 client over ssl (443) and issues with your Converter (which also uses 443) it would seem that the problem may lay therein. maybe you could service firewall restart ?

from your logfiles:

Connecting to host 192.168.1.150 on port 443

GetVimConnection has error while trying to connect (3), Error: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host.

kind regards

Jesse

>Another issue is that I can only connect to my ESX using Virtual Infrastructure Client 2.0.

You are using ESX 3.0.x, so it's normal. Certificate was implemented only from ESX 3.5.

Which version of converter are you using? Have you tried the 3.0.0?

Using version 4.00 of the converter. Should I try 3.00? Can I still download it?

Still no luck in getting it to work.

No. I have it on a client and I want to clone a machine sitting on the same subnet.

Try to install Converter inside the source machine and launch from there.

It seem that there still a problem with the comunication client/server (some version mismatch).
