Adding Additional Storage in ESXI 4.0 via "Network File System"

We have a Dell Machine that is running ESXI server 4.0. This server before was sitting inside the company's firewall, and we were able to add the additional storage using network file system (Vsphere client > Conf> add storage). The additional storage is a Netgear NVX Raid unit.

Now the issue is this ESXI server is connected in DMZ environment which is outside the firewall. We can connect to this server using Vsphere client from inside the firewall, but when we try to add additional storage we get an error message. Is there a specific port that needs to be open for mapping additional storage via NFS? OR is there a range of ports that needs to be open? Any tips would be nice.

See http://blog.peacon.co.uk/wiki/NFS

But you should not do this the way that has been described. The ESXi host should have seperate physical interfaces plumbed in to the storage LAN and vmkernel ports added to that. Similarly for the management of the ESXi host. Then ensure that VMs running on the DMZ LAN do not have vNICs on either of the above, such that it is impossible for a compromised VM to access either the host or the storage LANs.
