Cannot Install esx 4 on 4tb sata raid

I just upgraded all the drives on a server that had esx4 installed from 1tb to 4tb. Now I cannot install exs4 on it.

The installer does not allow me to select the volume. Am I missing something?

Thanks

You need to split you RAID to several volumes less than 2TB each

Only the physical limits of VMFS and EXT limits. You can't have volumes that big. You need to break these down into 2TB or less at the RAID level, THEN you can install ESX

The largest size of disk ESX and ESXi can access is 2 TB - 512 B so if you can carve the 4 TB into LUNs less then 2 TB you will be able to see the storage -

Hello.

Carve up the RAID into two or more volumes less than 2 TB - 512 bytes each. See kb 3371739 for more information.

Good Luck!

Thank you for all the answers.

Would this limitation apply if I implement an iSCSI or fibre channel solution to store the VMs?

Cheers,

Yes, for either.
