Cannot get 3d support enabled in Ubuntu 13.04

Hi,

I cant seem to find a solution to this issue. I cant for the life of me figure out how to get the 3d support working for ubuntu 13.04. The option is grayed out. I have tried to search for it unsuccessfully or my googlefu is bad. Anyone point to directions?

All I was able to find was this thread: VIRTUALIZATION - Enabling 3D support on Ubuntu 11.04 guest in ESXi 5 - efreedom which actually came from a thread from this forum but for windows.

I did verify I was able to run 3d support in vmware player so I cant imagine this doesn't work in the ESXi version.

BTW: this is for remote purposes, I had to use a 2d fallback to get it to display the desktop.

Which ESXi version (build) are you running?

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/Whats-New-VMware-vSphere-51-Platform-Technical-Whitepaper....

As of now, there are only limited OS's that have 3d support even if the hardware supports it

Configure Video Cards in the vSphere Client

<snip>

(Optional)  Click Enable 3D support.

This check box is active only for guest operating systems on which VMware supports 3D.

</snip>

As of now, the only OS's that work are

Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2008 and Windows 8

Note: Workstation and Player does offer native 3D support for other OS's
