hello,
I have installed a new HP blade server but one of my nic is not showing CDP information. however, it is showing in DCUI that it is connected.
vmnic0 is showing all the networks and showing all the CDP information.
i am running esxi 4.1.
any suggestions.
Hy,
Please look and apply this KBs:
VMware KB: Configuring the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) with ESX/ESXi
VMware KB: Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) network information
Remember that CDP is proprietary protocol of Cisco and will not work on HP switches... the HP switches will only bypass CDP information if on the other side of HP you have a Cisco switch/router connected.
hello DanielOprea, I have seen these KBs and my esxi is listening CDP, any other suggestions. if someone have seen this problem?
only one nic is listening and other nic is not showing anything. i am going to call HP and let see.
even I have changed the virtual profiles but the results are the same.
Ok, but in the swhitch cisco CDP is running on?
A alternative to CDP is the LLDP, but is only available on distributed virtual switches of ESXi 5.x.
Hi
You can also double check the layer 1 - the physical cable.
Let say you have 2 NIC: vmnic0 & vmnic1.
vmnic0 shows CDP while vmnic1 does not.
Try to use the physical cable / physical switch port which is connected to vmnic0, now connect it to vmnic1 (swap physical cable vmnic0 with vmnic1).
If there is some problem with the cable or physical switch port, vmnic1 should shows CDP while vmnic0 does not.
The pSwitch port is configured with a "no cdp enable" command? As CDP is configured at the vSwitch level, the NIC has to be assigned to such one OFC.

these are new blade hosts, and there is a problem which the hosts itself because when i use the same blade to somewhere else it also doest work. i will update tomorrow once i got reply from vender.
after replacing motherboard, my problem solved.
Thank you everyone
Hello,
Glad, you've solved the problem. Then the problem resided not in the hardware? More precisely at in the network cards on the motherboard ??
yes, the problem was on nic so, once HP engineer changed the motherboard, nic was able to see CDP information, VLANS etc.
Thank you for the help !
