ESX 4 U1 on IBM x3100 M4

Hello,

I'm trying to install the ESX 4 server on IBM x3100 M4 with software LSI Megaraid SATA RAID (2 HDD 1Tb in RAID1 configuration). The installation process described by IBM here : http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5088737

But when I'm going to select drive and partition for installing the ESX - I don't see my logical volume and see only separate HDDs.

What is the problem?

It looks like you are using an onboard software ("fake") RAID controller. ESXi only supports hardware RAID controllers listed in the HCL.

PS: Which RAID controller do you have? Is it one of those mentioned in the link you provided?

Yes, I'm running with fake software raid. I have not hardware raid right now. Could you tell me, If I buy the hardware LSI Megaraid M1015 - ESXi will work with it?

You will find all supported RAID controllers in the HCL. ServeRAID M1015 SAS/SATA Controller is listed there.
