Enabling 3D support on Ubuntu 10.10 or WHS 2011

I currently have two VM's that I would like to enable 3d support on.  It does not matter which one it works on, as long as I can get it to work.

I need a VM that can run the XBMC client for automating the updating of the XMBC library.  It does not have to play any actual video content, it just needs to run the client.  I can turn off a netbook that is pulling update duty if I can get this to work.

Both the Ubuntu and Windows Home Server are hardware v8 VM's, but I can not figure out what to do to enable the "Enable 3D Support" button on either of them.  They both have VM Tools installed.  I tried updating the WHS instance with the WDDM video drivers and that did not seem to make a difference.

I'm running ESXi on an HP Proliant N40L Microserver.

The only way I have been able to see that "Enable 3D Support" is if I start a brand new Windows 7 VM.  That would be OK, but I don't really want to waste the resources or the Win 7 license on such a simple task.

What do you folks think?
