Esxi 6 - Password issue

Hello all,

After running the Esxi server for several weeks I started experiencing an issue where I try to login via web browser or ssh and receive this error:

'Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password'

The only way I have been able to resolve this is to hard reboot the Esxi server. After doing so I can login again for a time until it the same things happens randomly.

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if there is a resolution.

Have you reviewed the logs on the host? Hostd.log?

Is there a password policy that enforces lock outs?

When this occurs, is it still possible to login directly at the host's console?

If you can login at the console, then VMware Front Experience: Watch out: ESXi 6.0 introduces root account lockout! may help.

Turns out it was a chinese hacker...

I had opened ports on my router in order to remotely access the server and within a few hours I had someone trying to brute force the password.
