Host with USB 3.0 card support questions on ESXi 5.5

We are planning to use veeam to back up our VMs to usb 3.0 hard drives and wanted to make sure our configuration would be supported.

Dell T420 server with get on of the USB cards

StarTech.com PEXUSB3S2 - PCI Express - 2 ports
Buffalo IFC-PCIE2U3S2 - PCI Express - 2 ports
Western Digital 4060-705065-002 - PCI Express - 2 ports

xHCI Controller will be added to guest Windows 8 OS or Server 2012 so veeam backup and replication software can take advantage of the xHCI driver and push data at usb 3.0 speeds.

Do our guest vms have to be at 9 or above hardware level? Would this configuration work at all?

USB 3.0 is supported on HW version 8 onwards link to doc.
