Hi All,
My client has asked me to configure alarm for the ESXi Host when it is using ballooning (memory) operation.
I did google it however I wasnt able to find anything for the Host or for the VM.
Any suggestions on how to proceed ?
Thanks
Hi Friend,
There are 3 ways to achieve your requirement
Before going into alaram details, it is must that you read and understand below sections from guide (ref::http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/mem_mgmt_perf_vsphere5.pdf)
When to Reclaim Host Memory
Ballooning
Once you understand, you will get picture on how you use already available alarm for your requirement.
Below are the ways
1. Virtual machine memory usage alram
2. Host memory usage alram
A free memory value of 6% or less indicates that the host cannot handle the demand for memory. This leads to memory reclamation which may degrade performance. Memory reclamation is more or less bolloning. Hence you can configure either alarm from above option & set memory usage alram for 90-95%..
VMware itself do not have direct alarm on Ballooning but above details achieve the same.
If you want direct alarm on Ballooning, have a look at below option:
3. Veeam ONE Monitoring : This solution gives you exact alarm that you need.i.e. "High balloon memory utilization": You need to add your ESXi or vCenter to Veem ONE Monitoring, check free edition of the this Veeam solution

I hope this helps. You will have to make understand your client the same
