I want to move my VM from a ESXi to ESX

Hi,

I have a VM running on one of my ESXi servers.

I want to move this VM (or copy) to another ESX server.

Is it possible to move or copy the same instance of my VM running on ESXi to another ESX (or ESXi) server.

However, i don't want to do it through vmotion. is there any alternate way to do that ?

Please help me to know the answer. Smiley Happy

Thanks,

Santosh

You actually have a few options and here are some of them:

1. Veeam FastSCP -> Power Off, Drag n' Drop, Power On

2. vSphere Client -> Power Off, Browse Datastore, Download from ESXi, Upload to ESX Power On

3. VMware Converter -> Power Off, "Convert" from ESXi to ESX, Power On

I'm sure there are a few others but that's what jumps out of me head.

Do you have vCenter? If so just add the ESXi host to vCenter and migrate the VM to the ESX host.

If both hosts are in vCenter Server then you can right click on the VM while it is running and select Clone.

Thanks all for quick responses.

I don't have a vcenter.

What about vm converter. is it a licensed version or can i download it for free ?

Also, how about taking a snapshot and copying that to a new ESX server's datastore and then power it on and start running it from there ?
