Install a license server for legacy ESX3.x servers on vCentre 4.1

Hi Everyone

I have a brand new vCentre server 4.1 to manage my vSphere hosts.

How do I license my old ESX 3.x server?

Do I need to install another bit of software?

Thanks, Maelito

ESX 3.x hosts still need the "old" FlexLM license server to which you have to point in the vCenter Server 4.1 licensing window. You can either install the license server on the new vCenter Server or keep the old Virtual Center Server - on which the license server was running before - until you are done with upgrading your 3.x hosts.

Hello.

Yes, you install the license manager alongside, as detailed in kb 1010704.

There have also been reports of the downloadable version not working well when running on Windows 2008, but by using the latest version of the license server bundled in the vCenter media for 2.5 U6 this issue should go away.

Good Luck!
