Maintenance mode

I get this error message when trying to put an ESXi 4.1 into maintenance mode

Host ESXServer cannot be entered into maintenance mode:
SOAP Fault:
-----------
Fault string: fault.RestrictedVersion.summary
Fault detail: RestrictedVersionFault

Are you using the vCLI or PowerCLI?  You typically see this message with the free license edition of ESXi.  This edition is limited to read-only operations with the vCLI/PowerCLI so you would have to put the host in maintenance mode with the vSphere client.
