Hi, I'm testing vmware ESXi 4, but I'm having troubles, randomly my server crashes and takes out a purple screen of death, after crashing I can just reboot the server, and there is no logging to check, the only thing I can show is a screenshot (see attachment).
What can I do?
Any suggestion???
Maybe a hardware problem, maybe not... check if you have (I think you already have by the build number) this patch installed:
http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1014886
Also you can call your hardware vendor support to check memory.

Hi,
it can be a hardware problem. Check the memory using a tool like memtest.
You should be 100% confident about if your hardware is supported by esxi 4. I would recommend you check this post to know all you can need about esxi4 compatibility guides.
Hope this helps you

What are you using for server hardware?
VCP4
As suggested above, start with a RAM test. On the WIndows 7 installation CD there is a utility under recovery, tools.

I have 2 iddentical servers, the servers are Acer Altos R720 with 10GB RAM
I was running ESXi 3.5 on both servers for about 1 year with no problems, now we are planning to upgrade our systems buying a san storage and the official vmware vsphere standard, but before of that I wanted to test the servers with the new version ESXi 4.0, the one included in vsphere, and there was my surprise.
This was the procedure, I moved all my virtual machines working on server1 to server2, and after that i installed version 4 in server1, then all my problems beggan. I've passed memtest for about 2 days with no problem. Now my only sollution is to reinstall version 3.5, but in this case I won't buy vsphere.
Any other suggestion??

Have you checked HCl and BIOS information? According to it, you need bios version "Intel Corporation 2.0" for ESXi4.0 U1 and "Intel Corporation" "FRU Ver 0.05" for ESXi 4.0.
Can you call Acer support and request the BIOS check for version and upgrade if is the case?

I think I have the problem solved, what I've done?? update SAS controller firmware. I'll wait a couple of weeks and if everything is still running ok, then I'll close the topic.
Thanks everyone.
