Re: Recovering a lost partition on VMFS-5 volume with GPT

So it is highly possible the disk /dev/disks/t10.ATA_____WDC_WD6000HLHX2D01JJPV0_______________________WD2DWXG1EB0DXH92 has been used as a scratch partition by the ESXi host it is attached to.

By design ESXi  creates a vmkcore & scratch partition on a "blank" disk with no PT info.

You can run the below commands to verify if that is the case:

vmkfstools -Ph  /vmfs/volumes/51c06671-19f64284-02eb-001b21a22f7d/

esxcfg-dumppart -l

If the above points to the problem disk then it has been formatted. You might want to engage a 3rd party data recovery team - VMware KB: Data recovery services for data not recoverable by VMware Technical Support

This has nothing to do with Arunraj but defintely a case of harassment by VMWare.

Another user http://communities.vmware.com/people/continuum from vmware community helped me 2 weeks ago remoting in my system to check what's wrong with drive.

He has same conclusion that it was used by after getting removed from ESXi as storage.

I hope VMWare will do some improvement by displaying message that your hard drive can be scratched :smileysilly: by VMware it self
