SQL Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster Supported in ESXi 6?

Hi guys

I think it is based on the numerous articles from MS and VMWare that I've been wading through but does anyone have any knowledge if an SQL Server 2008 R2 Failover cluster is supported under ESXi 6?

I think we would be running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 OS unless we are forced to stick with Server 2008 R2 for legacy reasons
