Unable to browse VM files like .vmx residing in datastore

Hi All,

Currently I am trying to browse the file residing in the datastore using my web browser and I was not able to access those file. On browsing the data store for the VM, I find the file type of most of the files as simply "File" rather than showing its own specific file format like vmx, vmdk.

I was able to observe this on cloning or creating a VM from the template and when I wrote a sample application for vSphere I am getting http 500 error on reading the vmx file of the VM from the data store.

I attached

1) The Data store view in vCenter showing vmx file type as FILE rather than vmx file. (VMXFileTypeChange.bmp),

2) On clicking vmx file it shows blank page (BrowserVMXFailed.bmp) rather than asking for downloading the vmx file (BrowserVMXPass.bmp)

Please let me know how can I address this issue as my application come out with http 500 error all times on trying to acess the vmx file.

Im pretty sure that the only supported brower is IE. Firefox(a little bit) and chrome(less) do work but not with 100% functionality

I tried with IE only but I could not, the only thing what I would like to highlight here is in the datastore of the VM the .vmx files and other file including .vmdk is shown as "FILE" in file type where as for other VM if was able to find the file type as .vmx or .vmdk.

To showcase the above issue, I attached the image VMXFileTypeChange.jpg. Where you could see the filetype as file rather than showing vmx file.

this happen when we do cloning of the VM or on creating VM from the template.
