Upgrade from ESXi 4.0 to 4.0 update 1

Hi,

(I'm pretty sure this has been posted before. Unfortunately, I cant find any entry related to the subject)

I've been required to upgrade ESXi 4.0 (181792) to 4.0 Update 1 (208167). The downside; no internet connectivity and, consequentely, vSphere Update Utility can't talk to VMWare servers.

Can you please advise the best and less-painful way for this upgrade?

Cheers,

Manuel

If you have no internet connectivity then you have 2 ways:

1) vCenter Update Manager - if you have vCenter, of course, and non-free license. Update manager can be configured to work in "closed environment".

2) Backup ESXi config, make clean ESXi installation, restore config. But in this case you'll lose all the data on local disks.

Hi,

I ended up reading "vSphere Upgrade Guide" and successfully deployed to ESXi Update 1.

I also put together a small deployment guide that I hope it will make your the implementation much enjoyable Smiley Happy

Cheers,

Manuel
