Using USB Passport drive with ESXI 4.1

I have a need to restore an image on a newly made VM on ESXI 4.1. The image is on a USB drive, which is directly connect to the ESXI 4.1 Host. We are using Acronis software for restoring the image. I was successful in booting up the new VM using Acronis "ISO". When Acronis is up, I cannot see the USB drive connected to the host. Looking in detail, I read something like ESXI 4.1 may or may not support attached USB devices. Can someone please suggest any tips or steps that I can use to see the USB drive for backup or re-imaging the VM...Thanks

Use the USB-drive from your Windows-admin host and offer the content via a fileshare.
Then boot the VM with the Acronis-iso and read the image from network.
That is the easiest approach
