VLAN Seed vs Non VLAN Speed

Greetings,

I have a small issue regarding speed differences on none tag VLAN virtual machines vs VLAN tagged virtual machines.

Test No VLAN

novlan_test.JPG

As you can see in both directions I can get up to 4Gbit/sec testing from another source (pfsense/router)  back/forth to the virtual machine when there's no VLAN tag in place

Test VLAN tagged in Vmware (IP changed but I'm using the same server I used to test with no VLAN

As you can see I only get 858 Mbps/sec testing from another source (pfsense/router)  back/forth to the virtual machine when there's VLAN tag in place in VMWARE

The VLAN is tagged on the same Network

Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance

Are you using the same virtual network interface in both tests ? If not, are the vNIC all the same (vmxnet3, e1000)?

Hi Richardson,

I am using the same server in both tests, all I did was change the IP and map the virtual sever to the correct network connection and ran the same iperf test... the (router/pfsense) server has access to both VLAN.

The virtual net and VLAN is connected to the same physical network interface

I'm using vmxnet3 with vmware-tools installed.

-may thanks!
