VMDirectPath: Host does not support passthrough configuration

IBM x3850 M2 type 7233

I have checked the HCL and its on the list.

From what I have read the DirectPath allows VM's direct access to PCI I/O devices to reduce overhead?

However, when I go to advanced settings for hadware in the config tab of my viclient it is giving warnings about affecting normal host boot and only being able to dedicate the host to a specific vm, etc.

It does not allow me to configure passthrough.

And there are no devices listed.

Can someone please help me better understand what this should mean to me?

I dont wish to use this option, i have read that many features such as vmotion and storage motion etc become unavailable when using this feature (which makes sense).

So....can i just disable this? If so, how? I really just don't want to see this error anymore, and I'm concerned i may be missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Passthrough and VMDirectPath allow you to dedicate a hardware device (disk controller or NIC) to a single Virtual Machine. If it isn't something you will be using just don't go there.
