Windows Server 2003 Guest - network issues when cloned or moved

Hello all,

We have a Windows Server 2003 guest with VMWare Tools 10.0.12 installed, running on an ESXi 6.7 host.

Whenever the server is cloned or moved to another host, it loses it's network connectivity. More precisely, it still recognizes it's network adapters and classifies them as "plugged in", but it doesn't get so much as a ping in or out.

That is an issue because it prevents a successful failover to another host if the host it's currently running on encounters any problems.

Next to the obvious steps like restarting the server and disabling and re-enabling the network adapters, we also tried assigning a new adapter to the guest (both E1000 and VMXNET3 don't change anything about the issue).

We have ensured that the server is in the right network, that it has a valid and non-duplicate IP address, and that it has a unique MAC address different from the guest that was cloned.

Any hints towards solving this issue are much appreciated.
