dell r710 won't boot after installing esx 4 update 1

I'm installing ESX 4 update 1 via pxe to our new R710 and it goes through successfully and upon the server restart it hangs indefinitely when trying to boot from local disk. Something odd I noted was it hung on the storage-drivers loading part of the installation. It eventually went pass this section without any error and goes to the part where it says press enter to reboot. After that there is an error about umount /mnt/src. I have installed esx 4 up 1 on our 2950s via pxe so I know the image works fine. The r710 has perc 6/i sas raid controller with a raid-5 setup. Any ideas?

I am going to attempt to install via disk later, however we really want to get this installation process working via pxe due to the number of servers we will have to update.

If you have storage HBA's, hook cables up to them and see if that helps boot past the driver load. what kind of HBA's are they, too?
