good resource for explanation of esxcli storage core claimrule -t

I am somewhat mystfied by the above command ...

I have looked at examples and can't really see much rhyme to the -t parameter.

Indicate which type of matching used for claim/unclaim or claimrule. Valid values are:  [vendor, location, driver, transport, device, target] (required)

device makes sense to me, vendor makes sense, driver makes ssense transport makes sense...

location and target? not so much.

in examples location seems to have an adapter as the next parameter...

and target seems to have a storage protocol... but then transport can have a storage protocol as well.

I don't know if I am being thick or what, but unless I can understand the reasoning, I don't know that I will ever be able to really do these commands with confidence and obviously as I have found in my lab, issuing a command against an adapter can have dire results - I manged to mask all paths from an adapter instead of just one device the other day!

If there is a document that explains what goes with what or something I would really appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction.

As always, thanks for any help

Bill
