iSCSI Datastore Migration

Gents,

I just inherited a vmware environment with a openfiler iSCSI datastore. I built a faster, bigger and better open filer iSCSI storage with some new hardware. How do i migrate the older iscsi datastore to the new datastore? Can i use CLI and script it from the service console?

Any help will be great.

Do you have vCenter Server in place? If yes, you can use either Storage VMotion or Cold Migration to move the VM's to the new storage.

Btw. I'm not sure whether this is still current, but you may want to be aware of http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026596

Hi, did you manage to do this?

I guess remote block replication between two open filer appliances can be an idea

I feel that will maintain the Data intergrity and bandwidth wouldn't be an issue.

I decided to go Storage vMotion from Vcenter Server. I really don't want to go through the storage replication which is complex and is not seamless.

Be sure that all VMs have no snap.

And I suggest to limit then number of concurrent Storage vMotion operations (to do not overload your storage)
