Hi,
we have a Synology RackStation where we host two iSCSI LUNs on it. These LUNS are mounted as Datastores, storing multiple VMs on it.
In the datastore details I see a path like: /vmfs/volumes/5283b99a-65.... for each LUN.
I now need to replace the Synology unit. I can move all harddrives from one to another Synology with out problem, the unit boots and I can reach it under the same IP. Also the LUNs are up. But, probably because the MAC address of the Synology changed, I can not access the Datastores andmore. In vSphere I see them marked as "dead". When I swap back to Synology unit, all is back to normal.
How can I do the change from one Synology to another? Is there a way to specify a new path to the LUNs and just reconnect them with its "old" content?
Thanks in advance,
björn
Hi,
On the new Synology are you presenting volumes to VMware? If nothing has changed (discovery IP/access rights) than you may need to resign the datastores :
Take a look at these two articles. They explain how a datastore is formed and poetentially why you cannot connect back to them when you swap units.
