"undionly.kpxe.vmw-hardwired" wont download from the TFTP server for Auto Deploy

Hi

I'm busy doing a roll out POC environment utlising Auto Deploy yet when I get my stateless ESXi hosts to boot via DHCP and then the TFTP server i get the attached error in my TFTP server. Has anyone expereinced this before? The tramp file is pointing to the correct location and all windows firewalls are disabled and i've tried numerous times to download the tftp boot files incase it was corrupted. Also permissions are open for all on the tftproot folder.

Have you tried connecting to the TFTP server from an alternative client (ie not ESXi trying to download it) to see if the problem is replicated. Are you running your POC setup  on physical hardware or workstation ?

Also, how many network adapters does you TFTP server have, and does your tramp file point to the IP address of the server or the DNS name.

Yeah i have tried it from a normal machine and via telnet and it connect fine. The POC is running in workstation. It has one NIC and i'm using the ip address in the tramp file so as to make sure DNS is required

Hrm, not sure how you have setup your vm workstation. Is the solarwinds TFTP server you are using there ?

Might sound basic. However, have you tried restarting the services for for the TFTP server, or even trying an alternative TFTP server. How about your DHCP settings, are there any blank spaces at the end of the filename you've pointed to download in DHCP ?

It's all communicating but it just wont pull down the file. I'm using WinAgents TFTP as it's what i'm planning to roll out in production

Yep, i've even rebuilt the TFTP server and change the TFTPROOT folder location and security settings. I can try Solarwinds and check. Nope no spaces and even removed and rebuilt DHCP and DNS in case

fixed it

Seems it was my network card setting as i had them all set as host only so when i changed it to vmxnet2 for all they could communicate no problem. All three stateless ESXi  hosts booting from Auto Deploy now.

I have had similar issues in VM Workstation when using bridged network connections (replicating to hardware) in W2k3 router machines suddenly not routing between networks, the only way I was able to clear that bug was by restarting my host (home pc).
