I just ran an assessment report from capacity planner for a site with 24 servers. The report gave me a total of 3 hosts out for a consolidation ratio of 86%. My question is does this calculation take into account HA. In other words if one host went down would I have enough resource to keep all VM's running.
The calculation does not take the HA into account.
So if the report gives me 3 ESX hosts out I should plan on ordering 6 right?
wouldnt 4 be enough? I could not see how 3 servers will die at the same time.
Rob, have a look at Lanamark Suite - it can help you run scenarios with HA and is specifically designed for solution providers delivering desktop and server virtualization solutions. Lanamark Suite also provides comprehensive support for storage infrastructure planning and normalizes workloads so that you do not over-provision virtual infrastructure.
