The DS3400 is certified with ESX 3.0.2.

VDI is just a use case for VI3 and doesn't require any special

certification.

Yes, DS3400 is supported by 3.0.2 and 3.0.1 except for MSCS

There are some limitation imposed by IBM for some OSs supported in virtual envs like ESX.

No, only OS X Leopard ...

If you are using a supported storage system with your virtual infrastructure, every guest OS running on top of that VI is supported. So is Windows XP.

Yes, you can, and I am sure you get no issues.

But if you find any trouble or get some issues using no supported OSs, you cannot get support from IBM even if you are using esx.

That is really simple, Do not ask IBM for not supported scenarios.....

Please get in touch with your IBM representative and ask him to look into the matter. It's just a matter of what they tested (perhaps the team doing the certification doesn't even know it's fashion these days to have XP on VMware as well).

I am wondering if next time they will want to certify the windows virtual machine NetBIOS names before you can create them on the storage .... you know ... if you haven't tested it you can't be 100% sure it works. Go figure...

Would help if you just told me that you needed some clarifications.

Im more concerned on the IOPS of the DS3200 storage.

We still need more information to be able to answer your question. There is a thread here where many people have posted their performance results with a lot of different storage systems - you'll find it here. If you need the IOPS, then you'll need to know the specific configuration you plan to use - and IBM would probably be the better place to get that info.

Hello,

To get lots of IOPS you need to use many spindles. I Have yet to find out how to do metalun on a DS3400 so you are stuck with some interesting lack of spindles. But your IBM rep will help. However if you use IBM SVC all this changes.

If you are using IBM SVC then you are unlikely to be in the market for such a low end storage array.
