Published Apps - RDSH Windows Server Licences on horizon servers

Hi All, I'm getting conflicting views of MS licensing for Horizon. Here's my question:

Do I need to purchase MS DataCenter LIcenses for my ESXi Hosts that house the Windows Servers that run the applications we use with RDSH. I was told that the MS RDS licenses purchased for accessing the servers covers it in some way and they are not really "servers".. Thoughts?

Thanks.

First, I'm not a licensing specialist, so you might check this with your distributor/partner/license specialist/MS for a definitive answer.

That being said, you need 2 types of licenses:

  1. Licenses for the Windows (RDSH) server(s). You can use any MS server license for that, but a Datacenter license allows you to use any number of virtual Windows servers based on the number of CPU/cores on your ESXi hosts.
  2. License for RDSH: the RDS Client Access License (CAL) is needed for any user/device accessing the RDSH server. These licenses are available in user or device based licenses.
