View 4 Composer won't install

I just updated my infrastructure to Vsphere update 1 including vcenter. View Composer was wasn't working properly (the View Manager couldn't see that composer was running on vcenter), so I uninstalled view composer and now I'm trying to reinstall but it gives me a the following error "Installation failed. The wizard was interrupted before Vmware View Composer could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

A reboot of the system did nothing. I'm running View Composer 2.0.0-192972. Any input would really help. Thanks

since View4 is not yet GA, it's still not supported to run on vSphere4. This may be part of the problem.

Stupid question but are you sure you're not installing composer on your view connection server? I got a similar issue when I tried that (admitedly on ESX 3.5 & vCenter 2.5!) . Of course you've to install composer on the vCenter server but I never read the manual until I've kicked myself in the head a few times! Anyway, I'm probably the only one to have tried this but just thought I'd mention it!

View4 is now GA, and is compatible with vCenter4. So, you should download it and give the install a try again. Also, as mentioned, make sure you are installing composer on the vCenter4 instance.

Have you follow the installation procedure on page 137 of:

Can you upload your installer log? I believe they are in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp:

vminst.log

vmmsi.log

I am having the same problem described in the original post.

Upgrading from 4.0 Beta to Update 1.

Upgraded Virtual Center server ok.

Attempt to upgrade view composer results in an interrupt error and a rollback.

Attached are the logs from temp folder

and the next post contains the files from the subfolder 1

the subfolder 1 attachments.......

(looks like I may be missing some certificates)

In the vmsi log file I see the message:

Property(S): MsgSVIExists = The installer has detected that a previous version of this product is currently installed on this machine. Please uninstall this application before attempting to install the VMware View Composer.

(This error was not reported to the installer. It just did a rollback and reported a message about the wizard being interrupted.)

It seems like the installer is not prepared to do upgrades ........ just fresh installs. But I think the installation stated that it was going to do an upgrade.

So, after doing an uninstall I was able to successfully install view composer.

I get "The installer has detected that a previous version of this product is currently installed on this machine. Please uninstall this application before attempting to install the VMware View Composer." In the logs but I uninstalled it from control panels before doing the new install yet the installer still sees Composer as installed. Are the files lingering that I need ti delete?

My experience was I simply removed View Composer with the Add/Remove Programs application from the Control Panel. This worked for me. I did not have to delete any other files. Someone else may want to comment further.

Yes I had removed View Composer with the Add/Remove Programs application from the Control Panel. I still get the "MsgSVIExists = The installer has detected that a previous version of this product is currently installed on this machine. Please uninstall this application before attempting to install the VMware View Composer" message in the log. Is there a flag in place somewhere maybe?

The log message "MsgSVIExists = The installer has detected that a previous version of this product is currently installed on this machine. Please uninstall this application before attempting to install the VMware View Composer." is misleading.

It will be displayed even View composer is successfully installed.

Any interesting information in Event View application log?

During installation, what option do you use for certificate: Create new certificate or use existing certificate from drop down list?

Try create new certificate see if this helps or not?

Did you ever solve this one?

I removed View Composer and want to reinstall it, and now I cannot do it.

I have the same situation - the logs says some stuff about certificate problems - but I cant seem to find the old certificate. Where is it located?

Did you try to reinstall with different port number?

We had this problem and solved it by searching the registry for 18443 and deleting that key.

Platform was Windows 2008 R2 64 bit.

View 4 Composer does indeed use the 64 bit dsn and SQL Native Client 10.
