We have a need to filter web content for our VMware View 5.2 deployment. What options have been tried and tested and found acceptable? Some users need access to sites like Facebook, YouTube, etc. while most do not, so something that can be easily customized is a big plus. How can it be targeted to specific pools and/or users? We use the big 4 browsers (FireFox, Chrome, Safari and IE) on Windows 7. Both floating and dedicated linked-clone pools. Thanks!
This can be achieved from Group Policy. To start, you need to create multiple groups and multiple OU. Then use Group Policy to apply the Policies per your requirement to user ids or to computer object.
This is something that you'll want to handle at the network edge, not from the desktop. There are a number of products that will provide web filtering at the network edge and integration with Active Directory, including Websense, Palo Alto Networks firewalls, dansguardian, etc. I'd do a search for either for Unified Threat Management appliances or Next Generation Firewalls, compare the feature sets to your requirements, and demo a few of the units before purchasing.
