I've upgraded to SRM 5.0 and installed the Equallogic SRA v2.0 on both my production and recovery sites.
I have successfully configured the array manager at my recovery site (Equallogic SAN firmware 5.1.1).
When I attempt to add the array manager at my production site (SAN Firmware 5.0.4) I get the error ''SRA command ''discoverArrays'' didn''t return a response.''
From the log :

Any thoughts?
I suspect a firmware problem : whilst SRA 2.0 is does support equallogic firwmare 5.0.4 I'm wondering if the protected and recovery site san firmware has to match (I can;t find anything to confirm or deny this 😞 )
Thanks
Andrew
Hi,
My first guess is that SRA did not find any replicated devices, can you make sure there are some before you start the discovery?
Please check the supported versions of the firmware from DELL, a mismatch might not be to the SRA's liking.
-Sudarsan
I've defintely got half a dozen replicated volumes including a volume set (was using them sucessfully with SRM 4.0)
Supported firmware is 5.0.2 or higher. I'm running 5.0.4 and 5.1.1.
As you say, the mismatch may be the problem...?
For some reason, I assumed you are past discoverArrays and having problems with discoverDevices. DiscoverArrays does not depend on having replicated devices, so my earlier question was unncessary.
Do you see the same symptoms on both sides? DiscoverArrays would be the first command that uses credentials to login to the array.
-Sudarsan
No : I had no problems setting up the Array Manager at my Recovery site (I think its significant that the SAN there is running a later level of firmware)
Then it does look like an SRA issue. Hopefully some DELL engineers look at this board. Sorry could not be of much help.
-Sudarsan
I opened a call with Dell just before my original post. I'm (still) waiting for there analysis of the SAN logs I sent them. I was hoping otheres might have seen this issue and could help me out 😞
Thanks for trying
Hello AndyShine,
Is the behavior the same when you give ip addresses for both Primary & Secondary Address ids? DELL SRA has difficulty resolving host names but work fine with IP addresses. But it does throw an error when it is not able to resolve a host name, so I am not sure if your issue is related or not.
Yes : same problem even if I put IP adddresses in both the Priamry and Seconday address\name fields.
Just as an FYI: I've had a call logged with Dell (raised at the same time as my original post here) and they haven't come up with any ideas
Just as an update: I've got both my production and DR san's running the same firmware now but I still have the same issue
Can you please add a log snippet, if nothing to make sure that it is the same issue? It would be good to show logs from both sites.
Thanks
Sudarsan
Thought I'd update this in case its of use to someone:
After opening a call with both VMware and Dell, 2-3 webex sessions and providing many, many logs to the support techies, it looks like its a problem with the Dell Equallogic SRA. Over the weekend I installed version 2.1 of the SRA (I don't think its been offically released yet!) and successfully added the array
It's now (correctly) warning that the production and DR SRA's are different versions so I suppose I'll have to upgrade my DR installation (just waiting for Dell to confirm)
How you got that unofficial version 2.1 ???
The Dell enginner I was working with provided it as a 'troubleshooting tool'.
I've actually gone ahead and installed it at my DR site as well. I've sucessfully run a test of my main recovery plan.
According to VMware technical support I'm not fully supported since Dells SRA v2.1 hasn't been released yet. I'm willing to take the risk for a while given that the previous version just doesn't work for me : the lesser of 2 evils
(apparently the new version is likely to be release in february...ish)
