While configuring SRM , it fails with "UNABLE to establish reciprocity".

HI,

We are trying to configure SRM with EMC SRDF. We have configured the SRDF and installed all the required components . Now when we try to configure SRM it fails while establishing reciprocity.

Steps to repro:

1. Click on configure  to configure the "Connections" for the protection site.

2. It will ask you to remote VC server IP , fill it and click next.

3. It shows the " remote vCentre certificate" . It says "Remote server certificate has errors". Click OK.

4. Enter the Username and password for remote VC server. Click next.

5. Again it shows "Remote server certificate has errors. click OK.

6. Now it fails while establishing reciprocity and says " bad username or password".

Attaching the logs.

Hi,

Have you restarted both SRM servers after the installation of SRM?

In "Connect Sites" wizard you must enter the user in the following way: domain_name\user_name.

That user must have "Administrator" role in vCenters.

Additionally make sure you follow the next instructions found in SRM admin guide:

On the Remote Site Information page, type the IP address or host name of the vCenter server at the recovery
site and click Next.
NOTE If you are using credential-based authentication, you must enter exactly the same information here
that you entered when installing the SRM server. If you entered an IP address in that step, enter it again
here. If you entered a hostname in that step, enter it here in exactly the same way.

and

On the vCenter Server Authentication page, provide the vCenter administrator user name and password
for the remote site and click Next.
If you are using credential-based authentication, you must enter exactly the same information here that
you entered when installing the SRM server.

Michael.

HI Michael,

We are following the exact steps as given in SRM_Admin guide. And we are also entering  credentials with domain name. User has Administrative rights.

What else can we do now?

Have you done the restart already? I saw many strange errors caused by not doing restart after the installation / repair of SRM.

Does that user have administrator on the root of SRM inventory?

Finally it worked. Actually we were creating the databse from SQL2008 instead of 2005. VC server by default install 2005 express but  we installed 2K8 to create database. That's why it  was creating problem..

Strange. SRM supports and works fine with SQL2008.
