linux unix guest disk performance bad on esx 3

Hello all,

VC 2.5 U4, ESX 3.0.3 patched until now, EVA 5000 a/p

We are running about 8 linux vm's with Red Hat Enterprise linux v5

vmtools v126777 installed and time sync deactivated

The engineer managaing these linux guests is troubled about the disk performance being bad.

If he copies a file within the same guest it copies about 3mb/s

Are there tweaks, configs on esx or the guest that can be applied to boost the performance of this guest type?

esxtop disk does not show any bad performance

SAN is almost idle 8%

guest mem 1024 in use 967mb

cpu peaks every 1 minute to 70/80 %

any idears ? :smileyshocked:
