Hi, i need to install the VMCI driver on all virtual machines in my environments (the default VMware tools install does not include this driver, a "complete" install is necessary )
to install VMware tools in complete mode i can individually enter advanced mode and add the necessary flags according to the following KB:
Installing VMware Tools in a Windows virtual machine (1018377) | VMware KB
it would be nice if i could automate this using update manager but i don't know how to add these flags in the update manager configuration
is it even possible?
Hello,
Please see the VMware Blog below to see if it helps answer your question. It does describe 6 different ways of updating the VMware Tools
https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2016/03/six-methods-for-keeping-vm-tools-up-to-date.html
Hi, first of all thanks for he detailed answer
but the problem is out of all of the stated solutions there are only two that allows you to add the VMCI driver: the GUI multiple selection in the web client and the guest OS vmware-tools-box command
these solutions lack the centralized dashboard and the compliance and remidiation features of Update manager
and also I can't see how I can automate the installation of VMCI using the gui or windows commands that runs inside the OS (maybe group policy? Or logon script?)
the powerCLI cmdlet called UpdateTools only has a reboot flag
the VMCI driver is neasecery for any solution that uses guest introspection so i'm suprised VMware did not incoprate this in update manager
