Our environment: VC 2.5, ESX 3.0.2
We ran into a situation where we hit the maximum LUN/datastore file count of 30720 objects. This stopped us from creating anything new (i.e. VCB stopped working, no new VMs, etc.) stating it could not "allocate the memory." Upon further investigation we saw that some of the VMs had created thousands of log files (vmware-###.log) within their directory, all aproximately 5K in size, on Aug 6 at around the same time. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening that day. The log files show normal logging but were rotating every minute or few. We have three LUNs and it only happened on one. Can anyone think of a reason why this would happen?
