question on vcb and vms without vmwaretools

I imagine this is possible, but want to ask to be sure.

I am getting ready to deploy a VCB server and have quite a few vms that are not running vmware tools.

Will VCB be able to back them up? They are linux vms. A simple backup of the vmdk is enough for me.

Is this possible?

The ability to backup a VM has nothing to do with the VM Ware tools. The VM's don't even need to be running to do a backup. The tools are there for the guest mostly, but the only thing you need to backup a running VM is that the disks are non persistent. IF VCB can make a snapshot, it can be backed up.

Actuallu VMware tools does provide an added function for VCB - it allows VCB to take a file consistent back up of a running virtual machine - VMware Tools lets VCB flush all impending writes in the file system to disk before the snapshot is taken -
