what is vmkernel swap file

Folks, Can you please tell me what is vmkernel swap file, where it gets created and what is the purpose of this file ?

Hello,

THe vmkernel swap file is a per VM file created for swapping its memory in and out of main memory when the real memory is overcommitted. The used to be a monolithic swap file for ESX version 2.x versions. For VI3 the file is now a per VM file.
