1 ESX Server, underpowered CPU for the number of machines..can I manage this better somehow?

Hi all,

We have 13 machines using one esx with 4x3.6ghz procs. It's ok on RAM but CPU resources are getting killed. Obviously we are not using DRS yet but is there a way to better manage the CPU resources between more and less demanding servers? Can anyone point me in the right direction or any settings suggestions? Thanks.

How many vCPUs do your VMs have?

Sure. They all seem to have 2! I thought it was a bad idea to have it set to 2 because it fights over them?

If they dont need and dont use the CPUs, then yes, its bad.

If they need and use them, then you should have them and it sounds like your hardware may have been overloaded.

Can I set a limit on each machine somehow to like .. 500mhz? or is it by number of CPU's only?
