Hi,
I have a strange problem, in my ESX 3.5 I have a SAN with 2 VM, both VM work fine I can connect with Remote Desktop but when I try to connecto with VCenter Consolo I get this message:
" Cannot connect to the virtual machine
Virtual Machine config file does not exist "
I have other SAN in the same ESX with 2 VM to and this VM work Fine.
Any idea???
thanks,
I have experienced this problem when renaming vm config files in the datastore. A new VM was created by another administrator and for some reason there was an "_1" at the end of the vm name, which was causing havoc with a script I was running on a host. I tried to manually edit the name of the VM in the datastore at which point I experienced the same problem you have.
thank, I try to check the VM´s config file in the LUN and I obtain the message " a file was not Found" but the VM work fine. I won´t that if the ESX restart or shutdown for any reason this VM don´t Power On again.
Any solution, I have only 1 ESX ???
you can do a rebuild of the VMX file from here http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102388...
alternative would be that i create a new VM, create advance mode, and select use exisiting vmdk and point back to the existing VMDK. make sure you define the right CPU,Memory,Network settings. Once done a new set of VMX file and etc will be created in a new folder. You can power up and use.
to tidy up the multiple folders, you can do a storage vmotion to another datastore, and whatever leftover folders can be deleted.

Have a look if you have some snapshot. Maybe the missing file is there.
To make a backup of your VM (before power it off) I suggest to install the Converter inside it and make and V2V.
