Hello everybody,
since ESX 3.5 64607 to ESX 3.5 SP2 I cannot mount anymore CDs or DVDs in COS.
Hardware is some Fujitsu-Siemens FSC RX300-S4, with latest firmware.
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/
mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device
In /boot/grub/grub.conf there is nothing belonging to the IDE CD-R/DVD
I also cannot connect the drive to a vm.
The problem exists at the time on several ESX Hosts, I think it has to deal with the CD-R/DVD Problem
Thank you, Armin
This will also depend on how your cd/dvd drive was recognized when the server booted. Usually, the cd will be automatically detected, and will be linked to /dev/cdrom, but this isn't always the case. You should be able to run 'dmesg|grep -i cd', and look through that output to see how your cd was detected, and to what device it was mapped to.
Typically, an ide cd drive will be something like /dev/hdc, and scsi will be /dev/sdc, but I've also seen /dev/sg0. The dmesg output should tell you.
